Paulding County residents protest data center expansion

No Data Centers

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Protestors in Paulding County have made their voices heard at board of commissioners meetings, demanding leaders say “no” to data center expansion.

They say the plan to build what are dubbed “technology park overlay districts” was something that was forced through without public input. Residents say the data center developments are planned directly next to residential neighborhoods and want commissioners to press pause until there is more transparency.

“We want reasonable development. Responsible development. We want the county to grow. We feel there’s alternate uses of that space that could make it better for the community,” protestor John Callas said.

Georgia Tech says the state has emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets for new data center development with over 200 facilities statewide.

  1. Just the unregulated building of Data centers and the use of etiment domain to secure land to build, and the support infrastructure is just criminal. And this does not include the wasted use of our ground water, electricity. What studies have them done to protect our ground water, Power rates, and the emissions that are generated.
